The Preschool Years at Summit Montessori School
The Children’s House years at Summit bring children in preschool through Kindergarten (ages 3-6) together in a multi-age classroom that allows each child to develop naturally at his or her own pace. In this environment children receive individualized lessons from teachers, but also learn through watching and teaching one another. Kindergarten students develop as natural leaders while helping younger students.
Montessori classrooms are rich, beautifully prepared environments full of materials that are inviting to children. While children make many choices in their own learning, teachers carefully monitor each child’s progress, knowing just when to offer guidance and support ensuring that over the three years the entire curriculum is introduced and practiced.
Students also spend daily time outdoors engaged in free play, gardening, and participating in nature activities.
The Summit Children’s House has a strong emphasis on peace education and conflict resolution. Children are encouraged to express their needs and respect what others tell them. You will hear children saying “I think we need to go to the peace area and work on it”.
Summit Children’s House students are happy, curious, engaged explorers and learners. Does this sound like your child?
