Maple Sugar Season
It is late February and warmer days followed by cold nights mean maple sugar season! Our Upper El students are taking advantage of the season and have tapped the maple trees on the playgrounds. A pre February Break call for clean plastic milk jugs provided the containers and UE provided the labor to tap the trees. Our Children's House students are carefully observing and not disturbing the "sap buckets" and collection of the sap has begun. Once enough has been collected the boiling will begin. Last year the season was short with little syrup production, so Upper El is hoping for a longer season this year. We'll keep you posted once the boiling begins, but in years past, one of the results of "Maple Sugar Season" is a bottle of Summit Sweet Maple Syrup up for bid at the April Auction - this year a part of "Lights, Camera, Auction" on April 7.
