November 20, 2017

Dear Summit Families and Friends,

It is genuinely hard to believe that one third of the school year has sped by, but that is the nature of the fall season in schools….happy, productive, and busy!

We were very excited to host so many of you at last week’s Family Night at the Book Fair; what a wonderful community event.  Many thanks to Lane Rebelo and her super hard working committee for planning and implementing the entire Book Fair Week. Parent participation in the Book Fair was close to 100%, a great number of parents/families (including some special guest alums) attending on Thursday evening for a mixture of books, crafts, yummy foods, and pajamas. Can’t beat that combination!

Just as we get a solid chunk of a successful school year under our belts it is time to set our vision on preparation for the next one.  We know and respect that your commitment to your child’s Montessori education is a significant investment for you, and accordingly we make every effort to support you in making informed choices about the continuity of your child’s program as s/he matures and reaches his/her next level of development.  Each late fall and winter we sponsor a series of parent education events that are designed to help you to understand and appreciate what comes next in the Montessori cycle. The first of these, our “Kindergarten Transition Night” is scheduled for next Tuesday, November 28 from 6:30-8 pm. Free child care is available for those who sign up.

Please join the entire Children’s House teaching team, key administrators, and a group of experienced Montessori parents as we share the scope and excitement of our Montessori Kindergarten program and respond to your questions about it!

On Thursday, December 7 we plan the second of our “Looking Ahead” events, the Lower and Upper Elementary Curriculum Nights (6:30-8 pm), child care also free and available. During these sessions, the entire Elementary teaching staff, key administrators, and experienced elementary parents will share the scope and wonder of our Montessori Elementary programs.  These evenings are open to all parents in the school.  We invite all Children’s House parents, with an emphasis on current Kindergarten parents to attend the Lower El Transition Night. We invite all Lower El parents, particularly parents of 2nd and 3rd grade students, to attend the Upper El Transition Night.

We will hold a Beginners  Transition event a bit later in the year, on January 24.

Have a wonderful, peaceful, and restful Thanksgiving break!  We look forward to greeting you upon your return.

Kind regards,
Martha Torrence
