Ms. Torrence (she/her/hers), who began her tenure at Summit Montessori in 2012, has over 40 years of teaching and administrative experience in Montessori education, including serving as Principal of the Xavier University Montessori Lab School and founding/administering Our Children’s Center in State College, PA. She also served as the Director of Toddler and Primary Programs at Cambridge Montessori School in Cambridge, MA.
Ms. Torrence served on the American Montessori Society Board of Directors for 11 years, as Teachers’ Section Chair for 9 years, and as Board President. She has been a member of the Montessori Schools of MA Board for 11 years, having served as Board Chair for 6 of those years. Martha is a highly experienced teacher trainer and speaker who has presented trainings and conference sessions in 22 states and 4 countries. She has written award-winning articles on her research topic, play. She is currently a teacher trainer for METTC (Montessori Teacher Educators Collaborative) in Lexington, MA.
