SMPA Committees
There are numerous opportunities for parents to participate in SMPA. We invite you to join one or more of the following committees:
Hospitality - Our hospitality committee oversees food and beverage, decorations, greeting of guests, and other logistics for SMPA events, such as monthly breakfast meetings with the Head of School, Night of the Arts, Kindergarten Planet Play, Special Friends Day, Book Fair Night and Open House. Materials - We assist teachers by creating educational and decorative materials for use in the classroom. Whether cutting, pasting, laminating, or doing other arts & crafts-related work, the materials committee plays a key role in making our school environment so special. We meet every Wednesday morning in the school's basement, and younger children are welcome.
Communications - This committee is responsible for communicating with parents and guardians, primarily by e-mail. We maintain the SMPA Communication Bulletin Board located at the parking lot entrance and apprise the community of SMPA events.
Cultural Enrichment - Under the direction of the Head and teachers, cultural enrichment volunteers initiate and manage programming such as puppet shows, an introduction to opera, water conservation, Japanese drumming, Haiku poetry, and roots of American music, to name a few. These programs change every year but serve to supplement classroom instruction with unique cultural showcases.
Parent volunteers are the cornerstones of the Summit community. If you are interested in volunteering for any of these committees, or are available for other projects, please contact Sunny Herguth at sunnyherguth@msn.com
