What is Montessori? Is it Right for My Child?

Tuesday, October 25, 2016

The Montessori method of education as defined by the American Montessori Society on their website was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori.  It is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood. Dr. Montessori’s Method has been time tested, with over 100 years of success in diverse cultures throughout the world.

It is a view of the child as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It is an approach that values the human spirit and the development of the whole child—physical, social, emotional, cognitive.

If you are looking for an environment where your child will be a challenged and active participant in their education, come to an Open House at Summit Montessori School on Wednesday, November 16 from 9 to 10:30 am.  You will have an opportunity to watch students in their multi-age classrooms working independently and collaboratively.  You can tour the historic Moses Ellis House that provides such a warm and welcoming home for students, faculty, and families.  Current parents will be your guides and will share with you their experiences as Summit families.  Summit administrators will answer your questions about Montessori education and about enrollment in Summit.  Please pre-register here.

Join us to learn why some of today's most successful and creative people (founders of Google and Amazon, and many, many others) credit their Montessori education for their ability to think creatively, work well as part of a team, and look beyond the ordinary to create the extraordinary.  Come learn why our students "Love it Here"!
