Monday Update - September 26
Hello from the SMPA (Summit Montessori Parents’ Association)! Sunday was a beautiful day for a picnic! It was wonderful to see all the families who were able to join us for this great event. We hope everyone had a great time. We would like to extend a special thank you to all the parents and grandparents who volunteered their time setting up, bringing food, managing games, grilling and cleaning up! The picnic could not have happened without your help.
Congratulations to Julia Abramovich (mother of Jacob Snell in CH I) who guessed 65 lollipops in the jar. There were actually 66 so Jacob will be taking home the jar of lollipops today.
Thank you to Saima Raja (Ayaan Rao's Mom) for these wonderful photographs.

Today at Monday Morning Meeting Mr. E. introduced Lisa Mattei to the students. Lisa's daughter Alyssa is a Summit graduate. While her daughter was here, Lisa was Summit's art teacher. Now she is a special gardner and she was here to talk to the students about native pollinators in the garden. First she told the students about a special exhibit that the New England Wild Flower Society had hosted at Garden in the Woods over the summer called "Native Buzz" which showcased containers to attract pollinators in gardens. Lisa received First Place in the Professional category for her "Fairy Tales Do Come True" containers. Her daughter Alyssa worked with her to create the fairy theme. They decided to donate the plants they used to Summit to beautify our landscape.
Today Lisa asked the students if they knew what pollinators are, and they did. Some students mentioned bees, others birds, and Owen mentioned bats. Lisa told the students that she was going to plant about 30 plants in our shade and sun gardens this morning. Miss Liz , Miss Jean and the students all volunteered to help her. After the plants were settled in their new homes, Lisa provided us with a map of the locations of the 14 varieties of plants she and the students put in. Some will blossom in the spring, some in the summer and some next fall. It will be fun for all of us to watch them grow. Our sincere thanks to Lisa and Alyssa for this wonderful gift.
Picture Day with Miss Macy is Friday, September 30. Order forms were sent home last week, please return them at your earliest convenience. Please remember that the day before picture day is the first day of Rosh Hashana (Thursday, September 29) which is a No School Day for Summit. Families who also observe the second day of Rosh Hashana and need special accomodations for pictures, should please let Miss Louise know as soon as possible.
