Monday Update - October 3

Thursday, October 6, is Picture retake day.  Miss Macy will be sending your proofs via email along with instructions if you want retakes done.  A few time slots for Family Photos remain on Thursday evening, please call the office if you would like to have Miss Macy take your family's photos. Samples of her holiday cards and other photo products are on display in the office.

Happy October - a quick look at the calendar shows a very busy month. Monday, October 10, is the Columbus Day holiday and there is no school.  Tuesday is a Professional Day and there is no school.  However Miss Antoinette and Miss Melanie will be here to provide child care on Tuesday, October 11 from 8 am until 4 pm.  The charge is $45 per half day (8-12 or 12-4) and $80 for the whole day.  You must sign up in advance for child care by Friday, October 7.

SMPA would like to invite all of Summit’s mothers, grandmothers and their friends to our annual “Mom’s Night Out” Event next Thursday evening, October 13.  If you have not attended in the past, you will not want to miss it!  Start your holiday shopping early, avoid the crowds, chat with friends, make new friends, enjoy delicious appetizers and drinks AND support Summit at the same time!

Many of the popular vendors who joined us last year will be returning (e.g. Pampered Chef, Tupperware, Arbonne International to name a few) plus we will be joined by some new and exciting vendors such as JaAm designs and JHilburn Men’s Clothiers.   JaAm designs features distinctive handmade custom jewelry; beaded crochet bracelets made of silver, pearls, and semi-precious stones.J. Hilburn is a Luxury Men’s Clothier who is revolutionizing the way men shop. They source the finest European fabrics from the most prestigious mills and world-renowned factories (the same that manufacturer Armani, Burberry and Zegna) to produce both custom clothes and ready-to-wear products, but they offer it to their clients at a fraction of what they would pay in the retail market (50-60% less than Nordstrom's & Neiman Marcus).   Clients shop from the comfort of their home or office where it is convenient and accommodates even the busiest schedule.  In only 4 years they are the largest custom shirt manufacturer in the world and have 96% repeat shopping rate.  Currently they are featured in Men’s Journal magazine.  Preview the line @ www.jhilburn.com and stop by at the Parent's night out shopping event on October 13th to view more "LUXURY WITHIN REACH!"   Here is a complete list of the other vendors.

All of the vendors participating have agreed to give something back to Summit, either in the form of a percentage donation from the evening’s sales, or merchandise for future use or auction.  We look forward to seeing all the ladies of Summit and their friends for an evening of fun!

Join the fun!   It’s the LAST WEEK TO PURCHASE tickets for the October 15th Revolution soccer game.  The Saturday at 7:30 game takes place at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.  Two hours before kickoff, there is a FREE Soccer Celebration and kids will enjoy inflatables, face painting and more.  All ticketed seats will be in a section specifically for Summit Montessori.  Tickets are $25 each.  Checks payable to "Summit Montessori-SMPA" can be dropped off in the school office.  The deadline to purchase tickets THIS FRIDAY, October 7.

Our Upper Elementary students will be attending Nature's Classroom October 19 - 21.  This is a much-anticipated event for them.

The Annual Book Fair will take place October 25-27, with the Family Night on October 27.

October wraps up with Mystery History Day which is scheduled for October 31. This is another highly anticipated tradition that finds our elementary students dressing as a historical figure, and providing clues for their classmates to guess who they are.

Last week Lower El students took their geography study outdoors.  To get a hands-on understanding of rivers, they made some!  Using their compass skills they charted a river course from north to south.  Using water they brought out in jugs they poured the water on the "river's course" and watched as it flowed from north to south, going around debris and obstructions in its way, or flowing over them if they were small enough.  Then they shaved some chalk dust on top of the water to really be able to see how the water did flow around obstructions, and how it left chalk particles (sediment) as it went.  After a group lesson, they divided into three teams and created their own rivers.

Finally, it is wedding season at Summit.  Miss Louise's daughter is getting married this Saturday, and Miss Siobhan's daughter is getting married the following Saturday.  Miss Louise will be away October 5 through October 11, and Miss Siobhan from October 12 through October 18.   Yun Scollard will cover the office October 5 and 6, and Miss Siobhan will be there October 7.   We ask that you please let them know of any dismissal changes as early as possible in the day to help ease what can be a busy time.  Thank you!
