Monday Update - December 12
What a Monday Morning Meeting! We welcomed Miss Luckshi back and let her know how very glad we all were to see her. Mr. E asked what else was special about today, and Aiden knew that it was the last Monday Morning Meeting of 2011. Owen then played "Stairway to Heaven" for us on his electric guitar and totally wowed us all. What an amazing musician, and he's only been taking lessons with Mr. Jesse for a year. The adults in the room, who know how challenging the piece is, were especially impressed.
After Owen played, Callie and Maia, shared some very cool news - the nine students of Upper El have read 100 books (actually 103 as of this morning) since the start of school. They were quick to point out that these were long books, not just short stories, and since there are only 9 Upper El students, that worked out to about 11 books each! Callie brought a cake she had made and decorated in honor of the occasion. Maia had the list of books that the students had read and it was three pages long!. Miss Siobhan said that we would make a poster of this list with the heading "Books Recommended by the Students of Upper El" to be posted in the library when we have the grand opening. Good reading Upper El! (Thanks to Mrs. Scollard for this great photo)
Thank you to everyone who has helped support the annual Summit online auction. $8,525 has been raised to benefit the school so far! If you missed out the first time, the Encore Auction is underway with some really wonderful items up for bid. The Encore Auction closes tomorrow night, December 13, at 9pm... Don't miss the fun of the last few hours of online bidding! Pick-up of items will be December 14 and 15 at Summit, so this is still a great holiday gift option. The encore auction is found at www.BiddingforGood.com/Summit/Encore.
The Summmit Fund Snippet
Tempus fugit. There are two good reasons to make a gift to The Summit Fund before 2011 slides into history:
1. A generous benefactor will match, dollar-for-dollar, all gifts made before the end of this calendar year.
2. To be deductible on your 2011 tax returns, your annual gifts must received by December 31, 2011.
There are several ways to zip-up your year-end, tax-deductible giving:
- If you are donating by check, please make sure your check is dated and postmarked on or before December 31, 2011.
- You can always stop by the Summit Business Office this week with a credit card.
- You can go to http://www.summitmontessori.org/annual_fund.htm and click the blue DONATE ONLINE button to donate through PayPal.
Many thanks!
Liz Love, our Recycling guru stopped by Friday with more returns from cans and bottles, and the news that a check for the boxtops was on the way. Please keep in mind that Summit, thanks to Liz, recycles cans, bottles, ink cartridges, cell phones and many other electronics and we collect Boxtops for Education. In each of the past two years, Liz's recycling efforts have netted Summit just over $1000.Our Upper El students also manage the paper and plastic recycling on a weekly basis for all of us, and they help us to remember the importance of recycling. There are labeled containers near the fence around the Children's House playground for cans, bottles, ink cartridges and electronics. The green and yellow Abitibi container is the place for paper to be recycled.
Summit's hallways have been ringing with the happy sounds of the Children's House students preparing for their performance on Friday for their families. Please remember that while Friday will be a normal drop-off day, it will be a short day. The students of Children's House I will sing at 8:30 and then be dismissed to their parents. The children of Children's House II and III will sing at 9 am and then be dismissed. Lower and Upper El students will be dismissed at 11:30. There will be no buses at dismissal on Friday - parents will need to pick up their children at 11:30.
Miss Edith is hoping that some families took pictures at the Amazing Things student art exhibit in October and November. If you did and are willing to share them, please email them to Miss Louise who will get them to Miss Edith. Thank you!
We hope that you have all received Summit's holiday card by now. We are so proud of this wonderful collage that was the joint effort of all K-6 students. It was based on an original painting by Lynette Haggard.
We wish you all a joyful, restful and peaceful winter break - and safe travel to all who are leaving home to spend time with family. We will look forward to seeing everyone on January 3, 2012!
